Everyone loves a little bit of glamour! It plays to our feeling that we deserve some luxury. It’s romantic and lush, while still being elegant if done well. You can add a lot (or little) glamour to your home with our fabulous tips.
Choose your space and commit
The best rooms to introduce glamour to are the master bedroom, living room, dining room, ensuite and powder room. Once you choose a space, be sure that you’re ready to commit to the glam style. Don’t just buy one glam lamp and then lose your nerve… that lamp will either stick out like a sore thumb or disappear into obscurity depending on what else is in your room!
A common colour palette for glamour style is black and white (charcoal and ivory if you prefer a softer contrast), with small pops of sexy colour such as fuchsia, teal or purple. However, a monochromatic colour scheme with metallics works just as well.
Shiny, shiny, shiny!!! Full gloss or mirrored finishes on furniture and polished floors are imperative glam features.
• Highly polished stone or porcelain floor tiles such as marble
• Plush rugs
• Dark, glossy timber
• Glass, especially black, and mirrors in silver, black or antique finishes
• Metals- silver, chrome, pewter and champagne. Keep gold and bronze to a matt or antique finish to prevent the room from looking too garish
• Fabrics- velvet, silks and organzas in damask, stripes or metallic. Black or white leather
• Flocked, embossed or metallic wallpapers
Flowers can zhuzh up a room. A blooming orchid or an elegant arrangement of lilies or a dozen long-stemmed roses can add glamour and warmth without dominating.
Choose ambient lighting to create the right mood. Chandeliers are always an excellent option for romantic glamour, and can be used in both a contemporary or classic setting. Glass pendant lights with decorative filaments are very popular at the moment as the filament glams up the simple globe, especially if grouped together.
Curtains are a must for glamour living! Done in the right fabric, they are far more luxurious than blinds or shutters. Keep the styles simple (no need to go overboard on the frou frou!) and let a luxe fabric do the talking.
